Gilbert Public Safety Training Facility

The award-winning Gilbert Public Safety Training Facility, located at 6860 S Power Road, is a 52-acre multi-use joint police and fire training facility designed to meet the current and future specialized training needs of Gilbert’s public safety personnel.

Working with Gilbert Police Department, you will have not only basic in-service training, but also advanced-level instruction designed to meet specific competencies and build employee consistency and confidence.  Our training facility allows for appropriate frequency and realism in residential, commercial, and roadway scenarios.  The dedicated training spaces is equipped with multiple tactical, prop and classroom structures, indoor shooting ranges and a driver training track.

Examples of police training include: Recruit Police Academy (Gilbert Police Regional Academy), Firearms Proficiency to include VirTra 5-Screen Simulator, Tactical Driving, Special Operations Training, SWAT Training, and much more!

Benefits of Working with Gilbert PD

The Police Public Safety Retirement System Local Pension Board decides all questions of eligibility and service, and makes determinations as to the right of any claimant of the Gilbert Police Department to a benefit under the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System.  As a police officer with Gilbert Police Department, you will be eligible for a retirement pension through the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS).  For further information, please view PRSPS website.

Work Hours

Gilbert Sworn and Civilian employees will work a four (4) day, ten (10) hour work day.  For sworn, officers who begin their shift in the evening hours will receive a shift differential.  Having three (3) days off each week allows our employees to have extra time to spend with family, travel, and enjoy what Arizona has to offer.

Vacation, Sick Time, Leave

As a new police officer, you will accumulate paid vacation time at a rate of 101 hours the first year progressing to 197 hours in 20 years.  You will also receive 96 hours of sick time and 10 paid holidays a year.  Each year you will accrual 20 hours of floating holiday pay to use at will.

Tuition Reimbursement

In hopes of providing an increase in the opportunity for Gilbert Police Department sworn and professional staff to have upward mobility in their employment in the Town of Gilbert, the cost of tuition to continue your education at a college, university, or vocational school (certified by a regional accreditation agency) will be reimbursed to a maximum of $5,000 per fiscal year.

Infant-at-Work Program

With Gilbert Police Department, not only do you join our family, but we welcome your immediate family as well!  Gilbert employees (mom or dad) may bring their baby to work up to the baby’s age of six (6) months, as long as the area is safe for an infant, and the presence of the infant is not disruptive to the division.  The program can be utilized on a full-time schedule, or a part-time schedule, and can utilize available Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) hours as appropriate.

There’s no better way to support family bonding and help ease the return-to-work transition than with our Infant at Work Program!
